A refrigerator’s just supposed to keep things cold, right?
|
| |
| For many years, that was really all we could expect. Enter the new generation of refrigeration. It is the hardest working appliance in the kitchen. Most work silently 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for less than $80 per year. Today’s refrigerators come in more sizes, shapes, colors and styles than ever before. No wonder it can be so confusing finding the perfect one.
What to look for:
Convenience
- Is ice and water in the door important?
- Would multiple refrigeration sites, such as extra refrigerator drawers, help with food preparation or kids?
|
|
|
| |
Functionality
- Take into consideration shelf heights and where you get into most often. Do you bend a lot or have to stand on tiptoes?
- Do you have an island or wall that door swing or size will make a difference to?
- Do you need more fresh or frozen food storage area?
- Side x Side or bottom mount? Do you use wide trays that need wider shelves?
Longevity
- How’s the warranty?
- What is covered under the warranty
|
|
PERFORMANCE!!!
- Does it run efficiently and quietly? DC compressors run more smoothly and quietly than AC compressors. Because they run more often on a lower speed, the temperature is more consistent. Think about a car: You use less gas when you cruise than when you constantly stop and start.
- Does it offer cold zones for food that prefers colder temperatures?
- Does it have ways to control humidity?
- Can it manage airborne molds and allergens and if so, how? Is filtration expensive or difficult to maintain?
